Random Reviews Chapter-17: Dash And The Forces of Alien Hell (Prodoomer)

DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN ANY IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

Recently, I completed a Doom wad/mod called Prodoomer. This is an interesting mod made by PsychoSilverTH. It's been a while since I reviewed a Doom wad. Let's get started.

Random Reviews Chapter-16: Mojo Life (Watamote)

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE WATAMOTE ANIME. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DON'T THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

This blog went on a bit of a hiatus due to a combination of writer's block and getting a connection timed out error every time I tried to access this site. All that's solved now and I'm back with another Random Review.

I should probably warn you; Watamote is the anime that replaced Mirai Nikki as my favorite anime. So don't expect a 100% unbiased review. I will however, try to remain as unbiased as I can while reviewing this. Now let's begin.

Random Reviews Chapter-15: Ex-Zero (Megaman ZX)

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR MEGAMAN ZX. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

So, I recently finished Megaman ZX and I felt it was quite different from the Zero Series. Why am I comparing it with Zero, which was different from other Megaman games itself? Because ZX comes after Zero in the timeline. Also, the Megaman Zero Series is my favorite Megaman series after Battle Network. Let's Begin.

Random Reviews Chapter-14: A Prelude to Sorrow (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR CASTLEVANIA: ARIA OF SORROW FOR THE GBA. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

It's been a while since I reviewed a commercial game. It was more than a year ago and that too was a re-review (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia). Anyway, I review another Castlevania game.

Random Reviews Chapter-13: Secrets? (A Dark Secret)

WARNING! THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE VISUAL NOVEL "A DARK SECRET" AND MAY ALSO CONTAIN CONTENT INAPPROPRIATE FOR YOUNGER VIEWERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST. I GOT THEM FROM THE INTERNET.

"A Dark Secret"... Yeah right! I stumbled on to this game a few months back when I was browsing through The Visual Novel Database looking for some visual novels to play. I'll just quote the entire description of VNDB for the game.

Random Reviews Chapter-12: Dear Red (Dear Red)

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST

Unlike most of my reviews, I'm not going to spoil the game. I've played this game about a year or two ago, but I'm writing this review now. The reason is the game stumped me and made me question my ability to review stuff. Though reviews tend to be subjective, this one is, in my opinion, subjective even by review standards. I've stalled long enough. Let's get this over with.

Random Reviews Chapter-11: Immortality (Baccano!)

WARNING! THIS MAY POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME BACCANO. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POSTS DO NOT BELONG TO ME. I FOUND THEM ON THE INTERNET.
The last anime I watched was 'School Days' and the last good anime I watched was 'Higurashi'. This time, I decided to take a crack at 'Baccano!' Unless I'm mistaken, this anime has only 1 season consisting of 16 episodes. It takes an interesting way of telling its story. The plot is almost as confusing as the plot of Higurashi.

Random Reviews Chapter- 10: Nightmare of a student. (School Days)

WARNING! THIS POST IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER 17. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. THIS POST MAY ALSO CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME SCHOOL DAYS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.
I finally did it. I don't remember why, but I did it. I watched and finished "School Days". And now I'm going to add to the massive store of reviews on this anime.

Random Reviews Chapter-9.3: Twisted Love (Mix Ore Part 3 of 3)

WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR MIX ORE. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES I'VE USED IN THIS POST.
This was probably my most tiring review. It isn't necessarily the longest. But It left me drained. I'll skip the small talk and just get to the point.

Random Reviews Chapter-9.2: Root of all Evil (Mix Ore. Part 2 of 3)

WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME MIX ORE. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Last time I covered Ayano's route. On my 2nd play through of the game, I chose the Honey Milk option. So this time I cover Rikana's route. Out of the 3 girls, Rikana's probably the girl everyone hates the most.

Random Reviews Chapter-9.1: Revenge (Mix Ore. Part 1 of 3)

After playing through Wadanohara And The Great Blue Sea (awesome game by the way) Mogeko, I was wondering when will he release Carnival Rhythm when I thought "Hey! Charon make RPG Maker games! I'll play some of her games!" Now, I played Charon's games before and although both her and Mogeko use the same software and are probably from the same country, there's one huge difference in their games. While Mogeko's games are each masterpieces and could very easily stand among great games like Doom, Ace Attorney and Castlevania (in my opinion), Charon's games are so bad their good. Mix Ore is game made by her and translated by Terriball.

Random Reviews Chapter-8: When Cicadas Cry... (Higurashi)

WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORO NI KIRA. BUT SINCE THOSE 4 EPISODES HAVE LITTLE TO NO PLOT RELEVANCE, FEEL FREE TO READ ON.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST. I FOUND THEM ON GOOGLE IMAGES.
If you're a fan of horror anime, chances are, you've heard of Higurashi. It has, I guess you can say, 4 seasons. The first season is called Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. It has 26 episodes. The second season, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai has 24 episodes. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Rei and Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kira are seasons 3 and 4, I guess. I'm not confident in calling them seasons because Rei has 5 episodes and Kira has 4 episodes. There's also Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni: Nekogoroshi-hen. But I think it's a special. I haven't watched it and am sticking to the 4 seasons I mentioned earlier.

Random Reviews Chapter-7: Black and White (The Grey Garden)

WARNING! THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS FOR THE GREY GARDEN. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Ever since I played Mogeko Castle, I've been hooked on RPG Maker games. I've played Yanderella and Mikoto Nikki. Then I played another game by Mogeko (Deep sea prisoner). He's the same guy who made Mogeko Castle. I'm not sure which game he made first, but I think it was Mogeko Castle.

Random Reviews. Chapter-3.1: Re-review Ecclesia (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE STORY OF CASTLEVANIA: ORDER OF ECCLESIA. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST. I FOUND THEM ON THE INTERNET.
Quite a while back, I did a review on Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. I was still new to reviewing at the time and the review seemed more like the ramblings of a fan boy than an actual review. So, I'm going to re-review this game. Why? Because this game is too awesome to have a poorly written review. So here we are again!

Random Reviews. Chapter-6: The Deadly Portrait (Castlevania: Portait of Ruin)

DISCLAIMER: THE IMAGES I USED IN THIS POST, I GOT FROM GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE. I DO NOT OWN THESE IMAGES.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is one of the more popular metroid-vania games for the DS. This game has a unique game-play mechanic, a great sound track and cool level designs. However there are a few flaws here are and there.

The main flaw I noticed was the lack of proper balance in the core game mechanics. What do I mean by this? Well, you play the game as Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin. Instead of selecting who you'll play as you play as both. You can switch the character you control anytime during your play-through. You can also fight alone or as a team depending on whatever suits you. This is a cool concept. Jonathan is physically stronger and is able to use weapons and sub-weapons of all kinds. He is weak to magic. On the other hand, Charlotte is strong against magic and weak against weapons. She attacks with powerful spells and weak books.

In this way, they work together to compensate for their personal weaknesses. It sounds perfectly balanced in theory right? But the problem becomes clear if you personally prefer spells over blades. See, I like using spells and when I got the first spell for Charlotte, I started using her more than Jonathan. This caused Jonathan to not master sub-weapons (They get stronger the more they are used). At first, this didn't cause any problem. I got used to how Charlotte is handled. But near the end of the game, it becomes insanely difficult for those who like to use magic. Jonathan becomes more agile with abilities like the Griffon wing skill while Charlotte still remains sluggish. This is a huge problem as many of the attacks the later bosses use are really hard to dodge as Charlotte.

And to add insult to injury, you're in for hard times if you haven't mastered the sub-weapons yet. The simplest way to beat Brauner, Dracula and True Dracula is to use Jonathan's Vampire Killer. Non-mastered sub-weapons are next to useless against these guys. If you plan to use Charlotte, you should either grind to insane levels or just give up because at levels 35-40, her spells will damage the bosses as much as throwing pillows at them will. For me, this caused a world of pain. I wasn't used to Jonathan and it took me an extra 2 hours just to get used to him.

You can't just rush in and hope to win either. Dracula's attacks are easy enough to dodge but will wreck you if they hit. To make matters worse, Dracula will launch a powerful attack that is likely to kill you when he's low on HP. And yes, this attack is very hard to dodge as well. But True Dracula's attacks are the hardest to doge of any boss. Granted, he IS the final boss after all. But if you're like me, you'll be button mashing like crazy and will keep hoping you can beat this guy.

As for the levels themselves, they aren't too difficult and are really nice to look at. But later levels like the Forgotten City and Burnt Paradise seem a tad recycled. The music is awesome through out the game.

The story isn't that great. But hey, who plays Castlevania for the story? It seems they focused all their writing on developing Jonathan's character and the history of the Lecarde family. Sadly, they left no character development for Charlotte, Vincent or Brauner. Also, this game has 2 endings. They are mostly the same only with a few differences here and there. But the bad ending is a bit... funky. See, the bad ending of most games make you want to see the good ending. You want to see the characters prosper. You want to know what happened next. Here, you just feel a bit empty and unsatisfied. It didn't make me want to unlock the good ending. All it did was make me feel a bit annoyed and got me to accept that ending and stop playing the game. Bad endings aren't supposed to make the player accept it and stop playing (at least, I don't think so).

Overall Portrait of Ruin isn't a bad game by any means. Hell, it's a pretty good Castlevania game. But I personally liked Order of Ecclesia and Circle of the Moon more.

I rate this game: 60/100

Thanks for reading!

Random Reviews. Chapter-5: Revenge (Jingoku Shoujo / Hell Girl)

Jingoku Shoujo or Hell Girl is an interesting and sad anime. In this review, I cover only seasons 1 and 2. I'm not covering Season 3 because, the way I see it, the story of Hell Girl ends at season 2. Now, I'm going to try to spoil as little as possible, but I recommend you watch the first 2 seasons before you read this. You might want to consider the fact that it's rated 17+ but I think if you clearly know what's right and what's not, as well as keep an open mind, you should be fine. As for season 3, I'm probably going to review it separately later on. Without further delay, let's get right on with the review.

Top 5 Favorite Youtubers.

I spend a lot of time on Youtube. So it's no surprise that I prefer some youtubers over others. Thus I decided I made a list of my favorite youtubers. Now this list is strictly my opinion. I'm obviously not going to include any channel I haven't watched. With that out of the way, let's get started.

5. Aquarius199: I'm a huge fan of doom. I have a doomworld account and I like to watch play-throughs of doom wads. I also like reading reviews. So it's pretty obvious that one of my favorite youtubers will be aquarius199. He makes videos of him playing doomwads. He also reviews them at the same time. He specializes in terry wads and generally crap wads.

Now, the reason he's only on the 5th spot is because his reviews are becoming repetitive and predictable. He also takes a long time to upload his doom reviews. But I still enjoy him punch through crap wads. So he gets the 5th spot on this list.

4. SomeOrdinaryGamers: I like creepypastas and games. I get both of these delivered on SOG. Mutahar from SomeOrdinaryGamers reads Creepypastas, plays horror games, reads gaming creepypastas, plays weird games, reads shitpastas, Plays games like Manhunt, rants and reads trollpastas. He also uploads fairly frequently. The only reason he isn't any higher on this list is because I like the channels more.

3. TheMysteriousMrEnter: I kinda feel like I'm cheating here, because Mr.Enter's channel got removed about a month ago. But It's my list and I can do what I want. Mr..Enter reviews Cartoons and Animated films. He mostly reviews bad cartoons in his show "Animated Atrocities". But he doesn't only review bad stuff. He also reviews good cartoons and analyses what makes them so great. He currently uploads on Daily Motion. Here's the link to his channel: http://www.dailymotion.com/dm_521ab692ab615

2. whoisthisgit: Whoisthisgit makes simple videos. They consist of mostly game-play footage and Text. But he's videos are awesome! His major shows include: Worst Level Ever, Best Levels Ever, Weakest Characters in Gaming Ever, Strongest Characters in Gaming Ever, Creepy Bad Endings, Boss Analysis and Ghastly Game Glitches. I watch all most all his videos. The only Channel I like more is...

1. The Game Theorists: Yeah, I like over-thinking games. That's where The Game Theorists excels. Matpat's Game Theory offers various theories on games. Gaijin Goombah explores the effects of culture in video games. And Trailer Drake Analyses Smash Bros. Characters in Smash History. I like every single video this channel uploads. It is my most favorite Youtube Channel.

Honorable Mentions: Screwattack, Markiplier, Tats Tops Videos, Joshscorcher, The Jwittz.

Thanks For Reading!

Random Reviews. Chapter-4 : Memories of Tomorrow (Mirai Nikki / Future Diary)

What do you get when you take a bit of the psychological factor of Death note, the horror factor of Higurashi, a cup of romance factor and make an anime out of it? The answer is Future diary (Mirai Nikki). All this time my 'Random' Reviews were only game reviews. Now it's game+anime reviews. Before you read any further, I must warn you, the anime I'm reviewing has lots of mature content plus there will be spoilers ahead, so read at your own risk. With that out of the way, let's begin.

Random Reviews. Chapter-3: Ecclesia (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

Castlevania games are of mainly 3 types. There are games like Castlevania IV for the SNES with game-play mechanics similar to games like Final Fight. Then there are games like Castlevania: Circle of the Moon for the GBA with game-play mechanics that resemble the Metroid games. And then there are the new Castlevania games like Lords of Shadow. Personally I prefer the Metroid-vania games and Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo DS falls in this category. [SPOILER! The following para analyzes the game's story]
