WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS FOR INFINITE SPACE. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Man, it has been a while, hasn't it? Almost a year since my last post. And I can't even remember the last time I made a video game theory (still technically a hypothesis). What can you do? Life gets in the way of things. As you already know, this post contains minor spoilers for the game. If you want to avoid them, I suggest you try and play the game yourself. It's an epic story set in the far future where humans have pretty much mastered space travel. The story was what kept me hooked to the game even after its rather simplistic and quite frankly repetitive combat system lost it's charm. This is no small feat since my total play time ended up being 73 hours and 20 minutes after I finished the campaign and I got bored of the combat about 4 or 5 hours in. Enough about that let's just begin with the theory.

In the world of Infinite Space, humans have found a way to travel faster than light speed. Because of this, I'm going to completely ignore the impossibility of such a feat according to our current understanding of physics. So we know the ships travel faster than light but how fast is that? All the distance in the game is measured in MIL. I Googled it to see if it was an actual unit and it is! 1 MIL equals 1/1000 of an inch. Somehow, I don't think this is the same MIL as the one in Infinite Space.

How are we going to calculate how fast the ships go if we have no idea how far they travel? There's actually a way to do this. At a point in the game, we get to visit our very own solar system! Since we know the average distance between the planets of our own solar system, we can use that to calculate the speed of the ships simply by timing it while we play the game. I originally wanted to use the distance from the sun to the Earth but that proved very difficult for game-play reasons. So I ended up taking the distance between Jupiter and Saturn.

It took my flagship, a Belenus, which had a cruise speed stat of 176 around 5 seconds in real time to get from Jupiter to Saturn. The average distance between Jupiter and Saturn (I couldn't find the shortest or longest distances) is approximately 646,270,000 kilometers. If we consider it took the Yuri and the gang 5 seconds to cross this distance, their cruise speed would be 129,254,000 km/s. For context, the speed of light is 299,792.458 km/s. So the modded (lots of modules installed) Belenus goes around 431 times the speed of light. How fast is that? It's faster than any non-omnipotent character in the Dragonball Universe. It's also faster than most superheroes in both the Marvel and DC universes.

But this is just the cruise speed. What about the battle speed? When you get into a random encounter in the game, it seems that your actual distance from your destination does not change. So I believe the combat area is confined to a length of 1 MIL (Infinite Space's unit of distance). And since this is space, I think the actual battle area is 1 cubic MIL but the game represents the battle area as a linear distance instead of an actual area or volume. This is probably done either for simplicity's sake or for engine limitations or maybe even a bit of both. Regardless, 1 MIL is divided into 10 equal segments during battles. So using our assumptions, how big is 1 MIL? For this we go back to Jupiter and Saturn. In the game, the distance between the two planets is shown as 3478 MIL. So we can say that 3478 MIL equals 646,270,000 km. So 1 MIL should equal 185,816.5612 km.

To find out the battle speed of ships, I measured in how long it takes for the ship to cross 1 part of the 10 parts the battle zone is divided into. It takes about 5 seconds for my ship to cross this distance. This makes sense because due to my installed modules and crew members, my battle speed and cruise speed stats were equal (both were 176). So based on our calculations, it took me 5 seconds to cross 18,581.656 km (approx.). That would mean my battle speed is 3,716 km/s (Approx.). This is much slower than the speed of light but it makes sense for the ships to not engage in faster than light dogfights. This is still 10833 times the speed of sound (0.343 km/s) and it's much faster than the fastest rocket built by man.

Now, not every ship is as fast as the one I used. Some are faster and some are slower. To address this I have equated the stat values to actual speed based on my previous assumptions. For my cruise speed stat, 176 equals 129,254,000 km/s. So 1 cruise speed stat means a speed of 734,397 km/s.
Similarly, with battle speed, 176 equals 3,716 km/s. So a 1 battle speed stat equals 21.114 km/s.
Now that we know these values we can easily convert the stats into actual values of speed.

Now, why did I suddenly decide to make this theory? Well, similarly to what happened with the Mogeko Castle theories, I looked it up online but couldn't find any answers. Which isn't surprising since Infinite Space has a criminally small fan-base. So I decided to draw my own conclusions. Now, just like my Mogeko Castle theories this one has lots of holes in it too.

In my calculations I considered the traveling between planets in the game happens in real time. But judging by the fatigue meter in the game, this is probably not the case. So how long is a real time second in the game? When one second passes for us while going somewhere in the game, how long is that one second for Yuri and the gang? Well, Yuri and his crew does age in the game albeit for 100% plot reasons. So there is a 10 year gap between Yuri the boy and Yuri the man. While we progress the story as teen Yuri, he doesn't age until we get to the ending of the first half of the game. The same can be said about adult Yuri in the second half of the game. So I believe that each half takes place in the span of 1 year or less. So I think that 1 second in real time is most probably equal to 1 hour for Yuri. If the conversion was 1 day or 1 month, it would be kinda hard to do all the shit you have to do in each half of the game in a span of 1 year. But if 1 real time second was worth 1 minute or even 30 minutes, it won't make sense for the crew to get as tired as they do. So I think 1 second = 1 hour is a fair assumption. But if I go with this assumption, the cruise speed becomes 35,903.88 km/s which is much less than the speed of light. It could be that the game was referring to the warp gates when it said that humans figured out how to travel faster than light, but I don't think that's the case. In the game, the warp gates and their origin seem to be shrouded in mystery and they also seem to be similar to teleporters more than anything else. Furthermore, since Yuri literally travels between (small) galaxies (SMC and LMC), I think 431 times the speed of light isn't that out there since Yuri obviously completes an adventure going from the SMC to the LMC in less much less than a year. Even with the aid of instant teleportation to shorten the distance Yuri needs to cross, the distance he does travel through isn't something to sneeze at. The Universe and our galaxies are much larger than video games, movies, anime and comic books give it credit for.

In the end that's just what I think. If you disagree with me or know that I got something wrong, feel free to tell me so in the comments below. If you've got your own theories about it, fell free to share them. And lastly, if you're a butt-hurt Dragon Ball fan, you can also comment about how Goku or Beerus or <insert ball="" character="" dragon="" here="" non="" zeno=""> can fly at a gazillion times the speed of light.</insert>
Yakitate!! Japan is a shounen anime where our hero, a young, ambitious boy named Azuma Kazuma defeats all his opponents to achive his dreams in true shonen style. But instead of taking part in "battle" battles, he competes with everyone in bread baking competitions.
Yakitake!! Japan's plot revolves around Azuma who wants to bake a bread that represents Japan. He takes part in many bread baking competitions against bakers with increasing skill and experience though out the anime. Though the outcomes of each of these bread-battles are very predictable, what IS unpredictable is the judge's reaction to each new kind of bread he tastes. Each bread causes the judge to perform an over the top reaction which are enjoyable to watch. Some of the reactions include going to heaven, going back in time and growing gills. On top of that, each bread Azuma bakes is different from the last and that was enough to keep me intrigued long enough to get me o finish the anime, which is 69 episodes long (weird number if you ask me). For me, the main selling point of this show came from it's comedic nature. I thought it was funny. But I also thought Watamote was funny so...

This anime has multiple openings and endings. Some I liked, some I hated. But for me, the opening that seemed to fit the anime best was the 2nd one and the 3rd ending was, in my opinion, the best ending. Except for a few, I liked most of the song that were used in the anime.

As for the problems in this anime, I'd say the plot isn't really it's main strength as it gets somewhat repetitive but it's nothing too bad. The characters, besides Azuma seemed to get more and more irrelevant as time went on. However, Kawachi Kyousuke and his interactions with almost everyone was consistently entertaining. Everyone else besides the judges, the protagonist and the main antagonist, doesn't really stand out much.

One thing that bothered me though, was the presence of Kanmuri Shigeru. He's a trap character (Looks like a girl but is a boy or vice versa). Taking into account, the nature of this shows humor in the later episodes, I kept expecting them to joke about it, which they never did.

Overall, it was a nice experience. It wasn't anything spectacular and it wasn't anything horrible. A pretty good middle-of-the-road anime.

I rate this: 78/100

Recently, I completed a Doom wad/mod called Prodoomer. This is an interesting mod made by PsychoSilverTH. It's been a while since I reviewed a Doom wad. Let's get started.

This mod is very visually and mechanically impressive. By that, I mean it uses who knows how much scripting to achieve feats which would never have been possible in anything less than GZDoom. It introduces new game-play mechanics such as RPG-ish experience systems and upgradable weaponry. It also introduces a slowly re-filling Mana bar which lets you use skills with varying effects. So basically, it does drastic changes to Doom's original game-play. It also introduces a double jump and a (annoying to use) wall jump to the game.

Now that we've got the elephant in the room out of the way, let's dive a bit deeper.

To me, it seemed that PsychoSilver is really good with scripting and took on this super ambitious project. But while focusing on the big and complex things, he overlooked the smaller, simpler, yet equally important things. While he was so intent on spicing up the original gameplay, he forgot that not everything needs spicing up.

This mod introduces a weapon recoil. It slowly raises your weapon up when you fire. I can see this being realistic, but it's a pain in the ass. Realism is fine and all, but a game needs to be enjoyable above all else. If something seems irritating in a game, it shouldn't be there, in my opinion. This is the problem with this recoil system. Though it is manageable with lower ranking weapons like the uzi and the pistol, it reaches the annoying territory with weapons like the sniper rifle and the sawed-off shotgun. In fact, the recoil gets so annoying that it made the plasma rifle, one of the more powerful weapons in the game, useless to me. I tried using it on multiple occasions but it never worked out well.

This mod also introduces platforming sections. The problem is, normally when platforming is there in Doom, it's kept relatively easy. But this mod introduces platforming sections which may be easy to pull off in platformers but the id tech 1 engine or the Doom engine was never meant for platforming. Hell, you can't even jump in vanilla doom. Even in advanced sorceports like (G)ZDoom, you can't control your jump direction as well as you can in platforming games. So when you introduce tight platforming sections in Doom, you better be prepared to do extensive coding to make sure the player doesn't rage quit. PsychoSilverTH did do extensive coding on this mod but he didn't tweak the jump mechanics enough to let you through the tight platforming sections without getting annoyed. And that's forgetting the moments in MAP04 where you can't clearly tell which is a platform and which is not.

The boss fights in this mod are all over the place in terms of difficulty. A particular "mini-boss" segment is an arena with 4 black flying spider demon. It is really frustrating. Another "mini-boss" is a maze with acid spewing demons and Cyber-demons chasing you. But in my opinion the boss of MAP08, Spiderdemon666 is the most unfairly difficult boss in the game. It's really hard to dodge it's attacks and it's harder to beat it with the weapons and skills you should have access to at that point. But the oddest thing is that the bosses get easier as the levels go on. Kranium, the 2nd last boss of the mod, is the easiest boss of the mod. It's nothing more than a re-skin of the Icon of Sin which you kill with your Electric Zeus instead of your rocket launcher. The Electric Zeus is a weapon that replaces the BFG9000. Think of it as a powered-down version of the Demon Tech BFG from Complex Doom. Not really a bad weapon but it takes some getting used to.

The later levels of this mod are confusing as all hell. I think each of the later maps took me 4 times longer than it was supposed to because I spent so much time trying to figure out where to go and what I'm doing wrong. And by "Later" I mean it starts getting confusing from MAP09. In my opinion, the confusing maps stop at around MAP29.

The music in this mod ranges from meh to pretty good. I personally liked the music of the maps 9 to 30, with a few duds and one SUPER DUD (MAP21).

My favorite map all round has to be Mad Space. Its concept and execution, though not amazing by any means, is pretty decent. My only grope with it is that it's also confusing (though slightly less than some of the previous maps) and the fact that it's the embodiment of all the frustrating platforming sections of this mod rolled into one. You'd think low gravity would help platforming sections. Not when you can't control your jumps. Doom was never meant for this kind of platforming.

Another thing I noticed is that a lot of the maps seemed a little... weird? There are enough texture misalignments in this mod for one to notice without actively seeking them out. Some texture choices in the tech base maps seemed a bit odd to me. But I'm not really good with textures myself so I can't really judge.

Overall, I'd say this mod has tons of problems. It has way too many frustrating sections. But I just can't hate it. The amount of work that went into it is pretty obvious and the mod itself, isn't complete shit. So while I don't recommend playing it, I won't tell you to avoid it either. Give it a go if feel like it. You can also drop it if it seems annoying 'cause it won't get better.

I rate this: 49/100

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE WATAMOTE ANIME. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DON'T THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

This blog went on a bit of a hiatus due to a combination of writer's block and getting a connection timed out error every time I tried to access this site. All that's solved now and I'm back with another Random Review.

I should probably warn you; Watamote is the anime that replaced Mirai Nikki as my favorite anime. So don't expect a 100% unbiased review. I will however, try to remain as unbiased as I can while reviewing this. Now let's begin.

"Watashi ga Motenai no wa dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui", which translates to "No Matter How I Look at it, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular" or Watamote for short, is a slice of life anime. I think the best way to describe it would be a super depressing version of Lucky Star.

This anime follows the life of Kuroki Tomoko, a girl who just got into high school and expects to be instantly popular. Why? 'Cause, she's already lived 50 years as a high-schooler and dated over 100 boys! In otome games. It goes as well as you'd expect and she's a loner in school. To make matters worse, her already poor social skills have degraded to unnatural levels. Now she tries to be popular with various schemes and plans. All of which end horribly.

I have to give the anime credit. It managed to create a truly relatable character without resorting to blank slates. Tomoko has a distinct personality which separates her from other characters and situations in the anime are fully relatable. Tomoko is an introvert. But unlike other introverts, she's trying to NOT be an introvert. This is what lands her into extremely embarrassing situations. Now, this anime can be really funny if it's humor is something that appeals to you. If not, then it's a complete and utter cringe-fest. You feel bad for Tomoko but at the same time you feel that she deserves whatever she's suffering at that time. And if you're like me, laughter is another thing that's added into the mix.

It's opening isn't something I care for. It's probably 'cause it isn't my kind of music. In my opinion however the opening suffers from another bigger problem; it doesn't give you much of a clue as to what the show is about. If anything, it looks like the opening to some horror or gritty and violent anime. Neither of which is the case for Watamote. It's music however is played creatively. By that, I mean it adds a lot of "stress?" to mundane situations. I don't really know how to express it. But whenever it's used, I can't help but smile and feel bad for Tomoko at the same time.

Its visuals are also used the same way the music is. Many situations and emotions are expressed with the help of visuals. It works well to establish a connection between the protagonist and the viewers.

One complaint I always hear is that it's got no progression. But I disagree. Though at a glance it seems that nothing changes except the passage of time, that's not the case. I believe that in real life, it's really hard to notice the constant changes. The same can be said about this anime. In the entire anime, the single most noticeable change comes at the very end. Tomoko is seen looking at the same definition of Mojo (Creepy Lady) at the end. She then says, "I don't care anymore." In my opinion, the plot did progress. Tomoko is still as unpopular as she was before but now she doesn't care about being popular anymore. And to an extent, she also doesn't care about what others think of her.

On a side note, this change is more evident in the manga. She doesn't outright say it but she stops trying at some point. This is clear if you go back to the first few chapters after you've gone through a lot of the story. So in my opinion, things do change. Just not the things we were expecting to change. I personally really liked the ending. It was quite satisfying and complete.

One more problem is that Tomoko is pretty much ignored by all her classmates. As highschooler myself, I can tell you that this almost never happens in real life. Even if you try to stay alone, it's still quite difficult. Though I'm not from Japan so I don't know if this is easier to pull off there or not.

Another thing I should mention that this is jam-packed with references. If you have watched any kind of anime, chances are you'll understand at least one of these references.

Over all, I'd say this anime is depressing and funny at the same time. It's really enjoyable if you don't mind super embarrassing situations and the humor is your kind of humor. if neither of these is something you like, then I say you should avoid it 'cause chances are you'll hate it.

Finally, tell me what you thought of this anime. Did you like it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in the middle (which is somewhat rare).

I rate this: 90/100

Thanks for reading!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6045252757155454132.post-53646349277238753572016-12-31T04:39:00.000-08:002016-12-31T04:39:20.283-08:00Some New Pokemon types that will be added (Eventually).Pokemon has gone on for over two decades. Even though I said that I hate Pokemon, it's because of how every generation of games is pretty much exactly the same as the previous generation of games. I still admire the clever ideas, creative designs and more or less awesome mechanics that made the Pokemon franchise so great. Which is why I still enjoy Rom Hacks and fan games.

So with Pokemon being as popular as it is and with no sign of showing any reduction in popularity, I think it's safe to say, that over the years, about any and every type you can think of will be an official type at some point in time, provided that the franchise itself doesn't die.

So this and the fact that hate it or love it, it's fun discussing random things in the games. So today I felt like discussing some types which can be introduced as well as how it can effect other types. Besides, it's my blog, I can write whatever I want.

Star/Space/Cosmic Type: Space is a pretty cool concept for Pokemon and while Deoxys is pretty much confirmed to be from space, there are others like Clefairy's line that may or may not be from space. And then there's Solrock and Lunatone whose designs are clearly based on the Sun and the Moon. And with new Pokemon being introduced every generation, there will be at least some more Pokemon which have some connection to space. So a Space type can fit.

It would probably be weak against steel and have an immunity to fighting type moves. It could be weak to ghost type in the same way electric is weak against ground types.

Data/Machine/Artificial Type: There have already been some Pokemon that are pretty much confirmed to be created artificially. The Porygon and Golette line are both man-made as it's stated in their Pokedex entries, so they would definitely fall into this typing. There are also Pokemon which look artificial or like machines like the Beldum and Magnemite line. These can also fall into this typing. The Regis, being based on Golems, can also fall into this type. Though Mewtwo can be off this typing, but I think it's better to leave it as it is.

This type can be strong against Steel types as well as Electric types while being weak to Water types. It can also be weak to Ghost and Fairy types.

Dream Type: Now, this is something I just thought would be cool to have. The only reason for putting in a Dream type is because I think it'll open up a lot of cool design options and ideas. So the only reason why it's on here is to be able to make cool looking Pokemon. As for which Pokemon are in this category, the only ones I can think of is Creselia and maybe Darkrai.

This type can be strong against Fighting and Fairy but can be weak to Psychic and Ghost types.

Light Type: I will admit, Fairy has pretty much did what this type was supposed to. But ever since the Dark type was introduced back in, I think generation 2, I always thought that having the opposite of dark, light as a type would just be natural and it bugged me that there wasn't any type like that. And 5 generations later, there still isn't a light type.

Now, since arguments can be made for why light beats dark and the other way around, I think it would be best to have a Dragon VS Dragon situation with Light and Dark types. Other than that, Light would probably be strong against Psychic, Ghost and Fairy types. But I don't know what it can be weak to. I guess poison and grass?

??? Type: Now this type is a special case. It existed from generations 2 to 4 and the only move that had this type was Curse. Under some very specific circumstances, it was possible to get Weather ball into this type and get a flying type to become this type for a brief period of time. Ever since I first saw this type in generation 3, I wanted it to be expanded upon. Personally, I think this can still be a pretty useful type to have around. It has no strengths or weaknesses which can result in interesting strategies and battles.

The only Pokemon I can think of that may have this type is Arceus, Unown and Ditto. There can be some pretty useful moves that can make use of this type. They can even add moves that ignores everything (ATK, S.ATK, DEF, S.DEF) and just hit the opponent with damage equal to the power of the move.

That's it for this post. If you can think of any cool types or think of any strengths and weaknesses of the types I listed above, please tell me in the comments below.

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR MEGAMAN ZX. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

So, I recently finished Megaman ZX and I felt it was quite different from the Zero Series. Why am I comparing it with Zero, which was different from other Megaman games itself? Because ZX comes after Zero in the timeline. Also, the Megaman Zero Series is my favorite Megaman series after Battle Network. Let's Begin.
Let's start with the music. The music in this game isn't really bad but it is forgettable. However there are some really good tracks in there. The music of Area B, Area J and the Slither Inc. building are among these grate soundtracks.

The stages in this game are connected unlike most Megaman games and this is both a good thing and a bad thing. Though having connected stages can enhance things like immersion and sense of adventure, it can get tiring passing over the same section over and over again. Luckily, the stages aren't that complexly connected and it's not that easy to get lost like in Metroid games. The stages themselves, however are a lot easier, platforming wise. Though I liked it, I'm sure hard-core Megaman fans will get a little disappointed if they were expecting difficult platforming.

Another thing that really surprised me was the ability to choose a protagonist in pretty much the same way as pokémon except you don't get to name them. It seemed a little unexpected for a Megaman game but it's a welcome change in my opinion.

This game introduces Bio-Metals. Sentient floating head like things which the player uses to change forms. Each form offers different advantages and abilities. But I found myself relying mostly on HX and ZX forms. So I have to say they aren't exactly balanced perfectly. But they are balanced and you'll be needing all of them at one point or the other.

Now the main problem I have with this game is how it flows and how ZX plays and looks, if that makes sense. Near the beginning of the game, you get the Model X as your default model and the game-play is pretty much exactly like the SNES Megaman X games minus the elevated difficulty in terms of platforming. It takes a while to get used to it, as with every game in existence. But then, Giro dies and you get his bio-metal, model Z. The two bio-metals work together and create Model ZX.

Now Model ZX, in terms of story, is basically a fusion between X and Zero. You'd expect something like this to be an extreme badass what with Zero in his games being exceptionally strong and X being X. But what do you get? You get something that looks very very similar to Zero and who plays like him too. Hell, if the Zero games are anything to go by, ZX is actually WEAKER than Zero. ZX loses the shield from the Zero games and the variable 4th weapon. Instead, you're stuck with just the blaster and the Z-Sabre. I could excuse this lack of power for the sake of making the game challenging but they didn't even do any major design changes. In fact, ZX looks so much like Zero, that I mistook him for a slightly re-designed version of him. The only time I realized the difference was when I fought the optional boss, Omega/ Old Zero. And after that, it made even less sense to me.

Back to the flow of the game, it took some time for you to get used to Model X. And now you play with what you're SUPPOSED to be playing with. Model ZX, which plays like Zero. I can forgive a game if it takes some time to get used to it's mechanics. But when you're forced to get used to it TWICE, it's just stupid and annoying.

This isn't my only problem with the game's flow. In fact, that's the smallest problem. This game has a very weird difficulty curve. The bosses aren't too hard and if you have 2 sub-tanks and an energy tank (which aren't that hard to get), most of the bosses become pathetically easy. I love video games but I'm not too good at them. When even I was able to kill 80% of the bosses in my first try, it says something about difficulty. Now, I already mentioned that I liked the lowered difficulty, but that's not why I'm bringing it up. The difficulty curve pulls a huge spike right at the end of the game. The final boss, Model W, isn't that hard compared to other final bosses. But the problem is, compared to all the easy bosses, this guy is like a unpleasant surprise. You aren't prepared for something of this difficulty in something this easy. I've fought harder bosses and final bosses in other games but at least the whole game prepared me for what I'm in for. And to top it off, there is an easy way to beat him.

This boss has 2 forms. The 2nd form can be divided into 3 phases based on his attack patterns. The tornado special move of Model HX is pretty OP. You wait for this boss to reach the 3rd phase and then you unleash this move on his weak spot. If you're aim is good enough, he should go down in 3-4 hits. Likewise, there's also a similar gimmick to his 2nd phase too which involves using a spinning move by jumping and attacking with the up button held down while attacking. I haven't played many Megaman games besides Battle Network but I don't remember any final boss being this gimmicky. Problem is, once this otherwise difficult boss fight becomes a piece of cake after using these gimmicks, I was left wondering if this was really okay or was it some kind of exploit or unfair way to win. Needless to say, they pay-off wasn't that good.

So what do I think of this game overall? It's good game. If you want an easy version of Megaman, this is the game for you. It has a lot of fun moments. And in the end, the most important thing in a game is how fun it is. I'd recommend it to you if you're like me who isn't exactly a fan of the series but likes to play Megaman games occasionally.

I rate this: 65/100
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

I decide to do another Top list. This time, I wanted to talk about some video game powers which I really wish I had from time to time. As for the rules, this list is mostly based on my personal opinion and taste. I'm not putting powers from games I didn't play. A single power may be prevalent in multiple games. I'm rating these based on how useful I think they will be to me. You maybe thinking, "But a lot of video game powers are awesome." I agree with you but, most of these powers will either turn you into a super hero or villain. I'd much rather go about my life as me and NOT be the center of attention. Let's begin!

Number 5: Double Jump (Many different games)

Now, the double jump may seem a bit lame when compared to the tons of other cool powers you can have in the game but it'd actually be a pretty useful thing to have. Being a short guy, I often had things I wanted placed just out of my reach. I tried jumping but it didn't help. I had to go pull a chair in or something. If only I could double jump. There were also some walls which, if I could get past, I'd be ale to cut down on 15 minutes of walking. There were also some puddles that covered a huge portion of the road and I didn't want to get my shoes wet. If I could double jump, these situations would be nothing. Besides, if I can jump over lava pools in games, I could jump over mud pools in real life.

Number 4: GZDoom Mobility (Doom)

Though I said, GZDoom, this is true for most source-ports for Doom. In the original Doom games, you can't jump or crouch but this can be easily done in most modern source-ports. Now what I mean by Doom Mobility is the ability to run at stupid speeds indefinitely and to negate any and all types of fall damage. Doomguy can run really really fast for really really long. If you had this power, you wouldn't need cars. You could run at around 60 km per hour and not get tired. Though you may want to be careful or you'll have the government on your tail. Then there's the more useful, "full with no consequence" power. Maybe you were enjoying a nice time on the roof of a really tall building and suddenly remembered something urgent. All you'd have to do was jump off and enjoy the fall. You'll fall safely without any repercussions whatsoever.

Number 3: Volaticus (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

Let's be honest, flying is awesome. Who wouldn't want to fly around. Actually, any flying power could take this spot. I considered the ability to turn into a giant bat from Aria of Sorry for this part, but since using it drains your MP and causes you to switch back to human form, it may not be the best power to have. You can argue that normal flight would be pretty much the same but in case of this glyph, you sprout giant wings and fly. If you ask me, that's way cooler than flying normally. Though you may attract a lot of attention, I think it's worth it.

Number 2: Any and all methods of healing (Almost all games)

Healing items and spells are pretty much a staple in gaming. Now if you had any one of these actually work in real life, you'd be pretty damn lucky. Be it sitting behind a wall, taking naps or chugging down health potions, I'd give anything to be able to heal myself from fatal wounds. If you ask me, I'd go with the healing spells from many a RPG. You'll heal near instantly.

Honorable Mentions: Bird's eye view (Many different games), The Morph ball (Metroid), Stretchy arms (Street Fighter 2), Status points (RPGs)

Number 1: Stop time to think. (Visual Novels and many other games)

What I would do to have this! Have you ever taken a decision and then think of a much better solution to the one you offered after it was too late? Maybe you promised to do something to be friendly only to realize at night that you REALLY don't want to do it? Or maybe you said or did something in the spur of the moment only to regret it mere minutes later? Well, these things happen to me a lot. So I really envy visual novel protagonists because they can just stop time whenever they face any sort of decision and thoroughly think it over before answering. Life would be so much better if I could just stop time, think about what I should do and then decide on it. This, in my opinion, is by far the most useful video game power one can have.

That was five powers that I think would've been awesome to have. Tell me if any video game powers you'd like to have. And as always...
WARNING! THE FOLLOWING REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR CASTLEVANIA: ARIA OF SORROW FOR THE GBA. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST.

It's been a while since I reviewed a commercial game. It was more than a year ago and that too was a re-review (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia). Anyway, I review another Castlevania game.

Aria of Sorrow was the most popular Castlevania games on the GBA and one of the most popular Castlevania games, period. This game introduces the "Tactical Soul System" Which is quite similar to Ecclesia's glyph system. The player collects souls from enemies and uses them to gain various attacks and abilities. However, your only attacks aren't dependent on it. You use a variety of different weapons which consume no MP, and for the most part, very balanced.

The music, like most Castlevania games, is awesome. We can agree with that.

The story is a breath of fresh air. All Castlvania games have basically the same story. Luckily, it's not as obvious as Pokèmon games. Aria of Sorrow on the other hand, changes the story up quite a bit. For starters, there's no Dracula Boss fight. The main character is revealed to be the reincarnation of Dracula and fighting off a thing called Chaos. So I say it's a very welcome change.

So what do I think about it? This game... Isn't as good as many fans claim it to be. It's by no means a bad game. Hell, it's a very awesome game all-round. But there are a lot of problems that stuck up to me.

First off the weapons, are balanced for the most part. The spears however, are really unbalanced compared to everything else. They hit fast, have long range and do decent damage. And though the soul system is cool and all, but for me it relied too much on MP. There are 3 types of souls. 2 of them consume MP. One consumes MP each time it's used to attack while the other consumes MP over time. This made it next to impossible to use two souls at the same time. It would've vastly benefited from a higher MP growth rate.

You may think I thought this game is hard because of the complaint regarding MP growth. No! This game was way too easy. The first 3 bosses appear as later enemies in game. I can understand if it happens once. But 3 boss slots taken up by a normal enemy in a Castlevania game is just annoying. During the whole game, I died about 5 times. Which is a surprising number when 3 of those deaths were caused by my own carelessness instead of actual difficulty or threats. And "Best GBA Castlevania game" isn't that awe-inspiring when your competition is Circle of The Moon (Great game but brutally difficult) and Harmony of Dissonance (Considered a black-sheep of the serious. I haven't played it so I can't comment on it). The soul mechanic is fun and all but it greatly loses potential when combined with the tight MP of the game.

Over-all, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is a great Castlevania game but is a bit overrated.

I Rate this: 70/100
(A Dark Secret)

WARNING! THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE VISUAL NOVEL "A DARK SECRET" AND MAY ALSO CONTAIN CONTENT INAPPROPRIATE FOR YOUNGER VIEWERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST. I GOT THEM FROM THE INTERNET.

"A Dark Secret"... Yeah right! I stumbled on to this game a few months back when I was browsing through The Visual Novel Database looking for some visual novels to play. I'll just quote the entire description of VNDB for the game.

"Oh sweet revenge!

A young girl. Abusive parents. Pain.
And finally? Bitter sweet Revenge.

Shyria has spent her whole childhood in a family that didn't love her, living a life full of abuse. At the age of 16 she gives birth to a child -- Chyla. With her daughter she finally has something in her life to give her joy. As her father kills the baby, something in her heart breaks and the last bit of light fades away, being replaced by darkness.

As she looks up from the grave she finds herself in the small garden of an abandoned house. In that moment she realizes that she has a goal in life and uses the house to develop the greatest things in her life, and to take bitter revenge..."

I'll be honest, when I read this, I was expecting something similar to Lucius. I know it wasn't a Visual Novel but I was still expecting the story to delve into how Shyria (Funny name, by the way) goes about getting her revenge. Perhaps give the player some say on this. Perhaps choose what kind of revenge she decides on or choose the method of execution or at the very least, delve into how Shyria carefully plans and executes her revenge. But this isn't what I got, and I'd be okay with it if not for what I DID get. I'll elaborate on that a bit later.

If you ask me, I'll say that this game can be divided into two parts. The first part was pretty good. It tried to set the mood and get the player immersed in the game. And it almost succeeded. The key word here is "Almost" 'cause a few problems damaged it's cause pretty badly. First off, the confusing and somewhat out of place background images damaged the immersion. And both the mood and the immersion were totally shattered by the occasional spelling and grammar errors.
Let me explain, though spelling and grammar errors are something that you should always avoid as it destroys the immersion and the mood of the game, it can be overlooked in most genres. However, mood and immersion are of immense importance in a horror game. You must avoid spelling and grammar errors at all cost in a horror game.

Moving on, in spite of everything, the first half of the game did do a descent enough job of building tension and in my book, is good enough. It's just a shame that it could've been great instead of descent.

The second part is where the game starts to really stink. As I said earlier, Shyria plans her revenge in the abandoned mansion. How does she do it? She finds demon powers in the basement of the mansion which make no sense. Seriously, I can't figure out how to make sense of what description I was given of the basement. And while I was a bit busy with that, Shyria got demon powers and I said to myself "Just go with it. Don't question it." You could argue that the plot of a lot of games like Doom don't make much sense. But when your game is a visual novel, plot is pretty much all it's got going for it. You can't put stuff like literal demon powers.

Shyria then transforms into a OP and probably a Mary Sue character and has "Bitter sweet (and very easy) revenge" and kills everyone who wronged her. The second act tries to deliver the scares with "violent" depictions but it didn't do much. It's really hard to scare someone with violent imagery when your only medium of delivering said violence is text.

The soundtrack was not bad. It wasn't too good but it wasn't bad either. It did fit some segments of the game and I personally believe that this soundtrack is responsible for all the immersion and mood this game tried to set.

All in all, "A Dark Secret" had a very promising first act but it very quickly went to shit.

I rate this: 37/100
WARNING! THIS POST IS MOSTLY MY OWN OPINION AND IS VERY SUBJECTIVE IN NATURE.

Some time ago, Daziigirl made a post on unotaku.net about over-hyping an anime. This is a reply to that post. Here's the link to her post: http://unotaku.net/index.php/2016/04/20/can-you-overhype-an-anime/

In my opinion, you CAN "over-hype" an anime. Now, I can understand where she's coming from and to be honest, I think various people have various reactions to hype as we're all unique. So while the hype doesn't bother her, it bothers me very much.

There are mainly 3 reasons why the hype bothers me. All of which are more or less personal. When I try to talk about anime to some of my otaku friends, the conversation always seem to get redirected to the same anime in a matter of seconds in the most annoying way possible. I want to explain this further with the help of a few examples. Let's consider the over-hyped anime is "X"

"Hey, what is your favorite type of dere?"
"I like __deres because that character in X is a __dere and... *A rant about X ensues*"

"Have you watched Higurashi? It's a good anime."
"No, but have you watched X? You should watch X. It's an awesome anime and...*A rant about X ensues*"

"I found a game that is a lot like Pokèmon"
"Cool. By the way, are there any games like X? It's an awesome anime and... *A rant about X ensues*"

It gets really frustrating when something anime related turns the discussion into a chorus about how great X is.

This should be mostly obvious but hype often comes with spoilers. To be fair, not everyone spoils anime for everyone else. But when the vast majority of the global anime community is resonating with hype, there's bound to be someone dishing out spoilers and avoiding them, though in my opinion, not impossible, it is very difficult. This will most certainly ruin your own run of the anime to at least an extent.Furthermore, even if you aren't bothered by the hype, hearing how good an anime is 24/7 will, almost definitely increase your expectations. So when you finally sit down to watch it, there will be a chance that the anime won't meet your heightened expectations.

If you somehow managed to finish the anime before the hype started or when it was just starting, you're still not safe. When everyone will keep shoving it down your throat, it's actually normal for you to start hating it. Perhaps you'll still be able to recommend this anime to your friends and list all of it's good points. But you'll most likely be left with bad memories of it rather than good memories. The reason is that if you eat your favorite food every meal and snack of everyday, you'll get so sick of it that you won't want to even look at it. This is true for almost everything. And that includes anime. My favorite anime is Mirai Nikki. But even I would hate it if it was constantly shoved down my throat.

Lastly, there are some things which Unotaku said which I'd like to address.

"I can understand, it can bother one sometimes, when all people talk about is that one anime. But to me there has to be a reason."
I completely agree with this.

" To be honest, I understand why some people get bothered by it, but it’s not the anime’s fault – it’s just doing its job."
I agree with her.

"So even if you have a problem with this, I guess you have to suck it up, because I don’t think it’s going to change xD"
Unfortunately, I do agree that this problem probably won't go away. Though I really do wonder if just "sucking it up" is a proper solution.

"And just because the anime gets a lot of attention doesn’t mean I will dislike it – it’s a good anime, and “overhypeness” won’t change my opinion."
As much as I want to agree, I can't. The problem is not of tolerance or of obliviousness. Like I explained earlier, if you keep hearing about how good an anime is, your expectations are bound to increase. And when the anime doesn't meet those expectations, it seems shitty to the viewer.

If you're a critic, you may be resistant to this effect like dazii. But I'm pretty sure it may effect you in some way. Perhaps the anime will seem good and may hit a lot of check points and you may admit it to be a genuinely good anime. But does it really matter if it seems boring or unappealing to you for whatever reason?

If you've read my "Dear Red" review, you know what I mean. If you can't enjoy an anime for whatever shitty or non-shitty reason, is it really worth it?

Now, hype is good. It's fun to hop on the hype train. But when it's overdone, it ultimately turns viewers away from it. We can all agree that too much of anything is bad. Likewise, too much hype is bad.

So what can you do about it? Don't go over bored in the hype and you should be fine. Even then it is sometimes unavoidable. At the very best, you can try and not pay attention to it as much as possible. You can also try watching the anime before the hype kills it for you. And please be mature about whatever you do.Will this save you and your anime from the hype? Not really. Will it 'cause over-hype to go away? No. But it will help you cope with it at least more than resigning yourself to it will.

That was all I had to say on the matter.
I decided to start a let's play series of my own on youtube. Now, I know that that field is over saturated but I just did it because I like playing games. Don't worry I WON'T make blog posts solely to advertise my videos, but I did it just this once 'cause it's my first video.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST

Unlike most of my reviews, I'm not going to spoil the game. I've played this game about a year or two ago, but I'm writing this review now. The reason is the game stumped me and made me question my ability to review stuff. Though reviews tend to be subjective, this one is, in my opinion, subjective even by review standards. I've stalled long enough. Let's get this over with.

Dear Red is a visual novel made in the RPG Maker VX Ace engine. It's kinda like Charon's games but done more skillfully. The story is about a girl named Red who is going to kill a man who has wronged her.

The story is handled masterfully and paints everything in varying shades of grey. There aren't any black or white personalities here. Among the characters, Red is probably the one that comes closest to black. But since she's the protagonist and the player character, her personality varies depending on what choices you make.

Speaking of decisions, there are many endings in the game and if I'm not mistaken, each decision is important to get a ending. Though in my opinion, the Ren'Py engine is the go to engine for making visual novels if you literally, have no budget, this game uses the RPG Maker VX Ace engine to it's advantage. It uses the RPG nature of the engine to trigger some endings depending on how quickly you act. It also uses to the engines graphical capabilities to enhance immersion.

The music, if you can call it that, fits well with the game's atmosphere and further enhances immersion.

I honestly can't find any actual 'problems' with the game and if I had to nitpick, I can say that the game it too short. I don't really like to complain about game length if the pacing is done right and the pacing here is okay.

So why did such a game stump me? It's because, even though this doesn't have any flaw that I can find, it's still, to me, a bad game. I say this because this game just wasn't fun to play. It bored me more than any other game I had played. In my opinion, you can have a game that is 100% free from all flaws, but if it isn't fun to play, it belongs in the trash. The main life of a game or any media of entertainment is how fun or enjoyable it is. It has to be entertaining. Why do you think it's called "entertainment" media?

I honestly don't know why it wasn't fun. Charon's games have flaws as far as the eye can see but at least they're fun to play. They're so bad that they're good. In that context, I'd say this game is so good it's bad.

Now, don't let this review discourage you from playing the game. I couldn't name any flaws with the game besides the "I don't like it argument". I don't rally have the right to call it bad based on my own personal likes or dislikes. So give it a try.

For now, I rate this 35/100

I can taste the dislikes already.
Thanks for reading!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6045252757155454132.post-63049805657593108952016-12-31T03:42:00.001-08:002016-12-31T03:42:57.557-08:00Some Dere Types IRLIf you've watched a few anime series, you've probably encountered some dere types. Today I'm going to draw some real world comparisons with a few dere types. This is again, my personal opinion. Please keep that in mind.

Now, let's be realistic for a second. Everyone knows anime is the world where energy beams, death notes and giant mechs (among other things) exists. So it would be stupid to assume this things exist in the real world. Likewise, there is, as far as I know, now "deres" in the real world. So the real world stuff I will talk about are not exactly like the deres in anime. Let's begin.

Let's take down one of the more common deres and also the easiest one to draw real world parallels to; the yandere.

Yanderes are basically the characters who are obsessed with another character and would even kill for them. They are super possessive and can kill people who try to spend some time or befriends with the person the love. The are, for the most part, does whatever their loved one says. If you've watched Mirai Nikki (Future Diary), then think of Gasai Yuno. She's called the Yandere queen for a reason. I shudder to think of the pairing of Light Yagami and Yuno Gasai. But I digress.

Now there are crazy stalker people in the world. Many guys stalk the girl they are attracted to. Some of these often lead to more serious crimes. Though not really like the Yanderes on anime, I feel these guys are the closest real world things to Yandere.

Himederes are another type of dere. These deres basically act like royalty and or expect special attention.

The closest real world things to Himederes are probably the snobbish attention hogs. Bonus points if they are rich. They expect the same pampering they get at home and they flaunt their power/wealth/whatever. Spoiled brats work too.

Tsunderes, like yanderes, are among the more commonly known dere types. They are mean to guys they love. They are best known on the internet for calling the guy they love an idiot (Baka). They generally deny all sorts of feelings toward the guy they, well, have feelings for and undermine the guy.

The closest thing to Tsunderes in the real world are probably the immature kids who tease the girl they like to get attention. I say kids because I don't think any mature individual does this (I could be wrong though).

Anyway, that's the end of this post. Before you attack me with how these parallels don't reflect the deres absolutely, keep in mind that in that context, deres DO NOT exist in the real world. In my opinion this is the closest the real world comes to the deres. But maybe you know better real world parallels to these deres. If that's the case, please tell me in the comments.
I often browse the internet for Doom wads. But no matter how many wads play, there is one incident I still can't forget nor make sense of.

I had been in a cycling accident which caused some injuries. I had come home from the hospital a little woozy from the incident. I sat down to play some Doom wads on my PC. My room-mate was out at the time so I was all alone in the house. I browsed the internet for awhile, going to sites like Facebook, Youtube and Doomworld, before actually going into idgames. Once there, I started browsing through wads. I had already played a lot of the wads and the ones I didn't play didn't interest me.

At one point, I noticed something that caught my eye. 26112010.wad. The title got me curious. The .txt file did not tell me what a exactly the wad was about except "some levels for Doom 2" and there weren't any reviews either. It wasn't that big in terms of file size so I decided to try it out.

The first map was just the Entryway of the Doom 2 IWAD. The only things that were different were the lighting, thing placement and music. Whoever made this reduced the brightness so much that you can just barely see what the map looks like. They removed the music, monsters and pickups entirely. The monsters were replaced with their dead bodies and there were various similar decorations across the map. The first thought that rushed through my mind was, "How the hell did this get through?" Idgames rejects any wad that contains parts of the Iwad maps or their modified versions, so I was wondering how this got past the admins. I got all the secrets and pressed the exit switch to move on to the next map.

Entryway Complete. Entering Underhalls.

The 2nd map was a complete change of tune from the first map. While the first map was a modified version of an IWAD level, the second map was a completely new experience. The map started me off with a new shotgun and 12 shells. It also took away my pistol and the ability to punch so the shells were all I had to go on. I started from a raised platform. The author must have gone crazy with the Zdoom features and ACS because the map had everything short of terry traps. This level reminded me of something but I couldn't figure out what at the time.

The moment I left the platform, I was attacked by a group of zombie like creatures. I tried scanning them but they couldn't be detected. I thought to myself, "Are these guys even killable?" I shot one and it died. The creatures were as tall as revanants. Maybe a bit taller. They were as slow as the zombies. They had jet black skin wrapped with what appeared to be vines or moss. They had bright yellow eyes and a gaping mouth. Because of their slow speed and low health, I had underestimated them. I paid for my folly when one of them took out a quarter of my health with an extremely fast green fireball.

I killed the group with 7 shots still remaining. I progressed through a hallway. The map itself was just as dark as the 1st map with a greenish hue added via colored lighting and the view further limited by fog. The music was a high quality ambient track.

I ran into more groups of those black things and soon used up all my shells. I should have saved my shells because, to my surprise, the map didn't give me any more ammo or health. I had to carefully proceed as it was now impossible for me to fight back. After a few more close calls, I completed the map with only 25 health remaining.

Underhalls Complete. Entering The Gantlet.

To my surprise, the level started me off with full health and again, 12 shells. The lighting was just like the last map; dark with a greenish hue. It started me off in a narrow metallic hall with a low ceiling. It appeared to be an air vent of some sort. Just like the last level, it had ambient music. I realized what the wad reminded me off; Doom 64. Me and my younger brother used to play this game all the time on our N64 when we were little. The game didn't have multiplayer, so we'd take turns playing the game. We had our fair share of arguments over it but we had more than enough fun times to balance it out. As we grew older though, we sorta drifted apart, as both of us got busy with our own lives.

I learned from my mistakes of the previous level and played conserving ammo. This map introduced creatures similar to the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. These new monsters were fast, tall and really hard to take down. I decided to avoid them as much as I can.

At one point, I found a poorly hidden secret. It had a megasphere, a Super Shotgun and tons of shells. Not having to worry about ammo, I hunted down all the monsters I ran away from and killed them. Soon there were no monsters left on the map. I found it a bit disappointing that the rest of the map won't have any monsters.

At one point, I was passing through a hallway when I heard the Icon of Sin say it's iconic backwards message. Since the map was dead silent save for the barely audible music, I kinda jumped. Fearing getting swamped by newly spawned monsters I ran through a huge portion of the map. After a while however, I realized that, for whatever reason, the monsters weren't spawning I completed the rest of the level without any problems.

The Gantlet Complete. Entering The Focus.

To my surprise, I kept my ammo from the previous level. The fact that this level featured official monsters like the imp, zombie men and shotgun guys, whereas there was nothing but custom monsters on the two previous maps surprised me even more.

The level itself was similar in design to the original Iwad levels. It had the same lighting as the previous levels, but the green hue was gone.

Having around 40 shells left and familiar monsters as my enemies, I was easily able to kill all the monsters. At one point, the Icon of Sin message started playing in a loop. But something was wrong. At certain times it felt like he was saying something different. When the sound finally stopped, the word 'run' flashed on the screen. I looked at the auto-map, but it still showed that I had got all the monsters. Suddenly something killed me. I loaded a save and continued from where I left off.

When I was at the same place again, I started running. I turned back to see what exactly was chasing me. I saw a glitchy mass of faces coming towards me at a extremely fast speed. I tried shooting it and scanning it. Both did absolutely nothing. I kept running until I completed the map.

The Focus Complete. Entering The Waste Tunnel.

This map, like the previous, lacked colored lighting. It also had the same type of official monsters as the previous. However, the map took away my shotgun and the shotgun guys didn't drop any either. The map itself seemed to be a fusion of E1M1, E2M1 of Doom and Map01 and Map12 of Doom 2.

At one point, I came to a room similar to the slime room of E1M1. Trying to dodge an imp's fireball, I fell into the nukage pit and the screen lit up bright red as if I had sustained insane amount of damage. When the red cleared, I was surprised to see that I had sustained only 1 health damage and all the monsters were dead. I completed the map without incident.

The Wasted Tunnel Complete. Entering The Crusher

In this map, there were no health or ammo. All my previous weapons were gone but I had a new gun in slot 9. It appeared to be an odd looking rifle. It was colored with white, blue and a brownish yellow. It had seemingly infinite ammo. Using it was like using the MDK console cheat. It one-hit-KOed anything I used it on. One thing that bothered me was the fact that I'd occasionally sustain 1 health damage from nowhere. I eventually completed the level.

The Crusher Complete. Entering Dead Simple.

This level had no monsters. It only had some marines that didn't attack. Just run away. It was just black everywhere I went. I kept getting damaged just like the previous level, except I kept getting damaged at a higher frequency. I heard someone call for help and ask me, "Why?"

Near the very end of the map, I saw a character wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans. I was unable to move when I came close to him. The words "Help me" appeared on the screen. I saw him walk away into the void. I then lost my last bit of health and died.

I was then taken to a text screen. "Why didn't you help me?" was all it said. Then a low-res picture of my brother popped up. He seemed to be very depressed. I was extremely creeped out by it quickly shut off my computer. I washed my face and decided to take nap.

I woke up to find my room-mate home. It was now morning. He told me that he found me passed-out on the chair in front of my desktop computer. I quickly turned on my PC and went to the folder where I keep all my Doom wads. Nothing. I couldn't find the wad. I checked my browser history and saw that I had been to Facebook, Youtube, Doomworld and lastly, Idgames. According to the history, I even went to a page for 26112010.wad, but when tried to revisit the page from my history, it lead to a file not found page. There was also nothing in my download history. I know for a fact that my room-mate didn't tamper with the PC because it's password protected and he has his own laptop, so he doesn't need to share mine.

As for my brother, he had become hooked on drugs and died from an overdose 6 years ago.

I still wonder if what I played that day was real or a hallucination. If it was real, why is there no record of the wad. If it was a hallucination, why and how did I end up on the error page for 26112010.wad?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6045252757155454132.post-63927684739384579692016-12-31T03:40:00.000-08:002016-12-31T03:40:04.811-08:00Spoiling Pokemon Sun and MoonAuthor's Note: This post was originally uploaded on March of 2016 on my old blog at Wordpress.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POST

Even before Pokemon Z came out, info regarding the Gen-7 Pokemon games, Sun and Moon were leaked to the internet. And now I'm here to spoil the plot for all of you guys.
First of all, this game features character customization. You get to select the gender of the protagonist. He/She isn't a normal guy/gal. Ever since he was born, he couldn't speak. At the age of 10, he and his rival(s) get their first Pokemon from a tree named professor, who gives them pokedexes and tasks them to collect data on every Pokemon in the region. This gives our hero the ability to pursue his life-long dream of becoming region champion.

He travels the land, going from town to town, beating gym leader and earning badges. In his travels, he encounters an evil organization whose name begins with team and for some odd reason, their goals and aspirations are on the same level as that of old Saturday morning kid-show villains. What's even more odd is the fact that only this 10 year old can stop them. Seriously, their plans have global consequences and all the region leaders are like "Ehh, whatever."

In our hero's journey, he thwarts the evil "team" over and over again. At one point, in order to deal a huge (and probably decisive) blow to the "team" and their Saturday morning aspirations, he has to capture a legendary Pokemon. They even foreshadow this by putting its picture in the cover art.

You soon do all mentioned above and finally reach the Pokemon league. There you battle the elite four and then the reigning champ. You fulfill your dream and become region champ. And then there are some other extra stuff to do after the main game's over.

If you stayed this long then thanks for reading. If you want to know my personal take on the pokemon franchise, stick around a bit longer.

I hate the main series games. So I guess you can call me a hater of the franchise. But I wasn't always a hater. I played pokemon and loved it up to the Ruby and Sapphire games in Gen 3. But I got bored of playing the same game over and over again. You see, the plot in each pokemon game, the objectives, the game-play, everything remains absolutely the same. You can argue "But Doom games have the same plot too." But here's the thing, Doom's plot is not important. You can say "Pokemon isn't about the plot either." That's where I have to disagree. You see, Doom is a FPS. And even the slightest change in architecture affects the game. But Pokemon is a JRPG. A unique JRPG, but a JRPG. Plots are one of the key elements in JRPGs because without it, you might s well be just button spamming. You can also say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". To that, I'll agree. The core mechanics of each and every Pokemon game is awesome. But after 6 generations, it gets stale. Change a few things, add and remove stuff, experiment a little. This is why, even though I hate the main series Pokemon games, but I like some of the rom hacks that are available on the net.

Well... As you can see, my art hasn't improved yet. I'm still working on it. Sorry for the sloppy editing. I'm very bad at it. Also Issues-3 and 4 are actually my worst work.

Speaking of Issue-4, I'll start editing on it after 16 March. This is because I have a huge exam coming up. It'll end on March 16. The blog will be on hold for a while. You may find a few speedposts uploaded in early to mid January but I doubt it. You definitely won't find anything new from February though. So sorry about that.
The technical difficulties have been resolved just enough to let me continue my comic editing. However, work on Hell Invasion is still on hold. It will be resumed around March 14-16 of 2016.
Until then, I hope to upload Issue 3 of War For Dominance on 25 or 26 December, 2015. Enough of the update, enjoy the second issue if you haven't already.
WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORO NI REI. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Welcome to the very first speedpost. These are basically stiff that I personally wanted to talk about but didn't think it was good enough for an actual post for whatever reason.

A long time ago, I reviewed Higurashi. In that review, I merely glanced over the episodes of Rei. I want to talk about this season in a bit more detail.

Though I still consider Kai to be the best season of Higurashi, Rei is probably the deepest of the 4 seasons. I gave some thought to the story Rei established and came to the conclusion that the true beauty of the story can be understood if you put yourself in Rika's position.

You fight hard and strive for centuries. You died and watched your loved ones die countless times in a fight to obtain a peaceful world. You win at last and now happy days are ahead of you. Suddenly, you are thrown out of the world you fought so hard for into a new "perfect" world. Your friends are there but they aren't. Their personalities are unfamiliar to you. It like they are complete strangers who only resemble your dear friends. You are left friendless. Your parents however, are alive. You saw your mother die countless times before. But she's alive and there for you now. Your home town is about to be destroyed but there's no need to fight. Everyone relocated to other places and are living happily.

In this unfamiliar world, you find a way back. To get back to the "imperfect" world you and your friends fought so hard for, to reunite with them, you must kill your mother in this world. You have 3 days. Doing so will push you back to your familiar world. Your home and your friends are there. But you're an orphan. Everyone has gone through a lot of pain. And there are some who still aren't fully happy. But you will have to leave this new "perfect" world behind. Alternatively, you can choose to stay in this world and start with a clean slate. Your dear friends and your home town is gone forever. But you can start a new life with your parents elsewhere. You will have to say goodbye to the world you fought so long and hard for, the world you sacrificed so much for.

So, will you do it? Will you destroy the perfect world and kill your mother to go back?

This helps us understand the message Rei was trying to convey. There isn't any wrong or right decision. Whatever you chose, it's your choice. You are responsible and it's your life. Be proud of what you chose and don't look back on what could have been.

WARNING! THIS MAY POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME BACCANO. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DISCLAIMER: THE IMAGES USED IN THIS POSTS DO NOT BELONG TO ME. I FOUND THEM ON THE INTERNET.

The last anime I watched was 'School Days' and the last good anime I watched was 'Higurashi'. This time, I decided to take a crack at 'Baccano!' Unless I'm mistaken, this anime has only 1 season consisting of 16 episodes. It takes an interesting way of telling its story. The plot is almost as confusing as the plot of Higurashi.

If the plot of the anime is considered as a line, instead of each episode covering a small portion of the line, it jumps from one portion to another. So I guess there isn't any clear beginning, middle and end. Judging by what the Vice-President says about the stories not having a start and end, I think this ambiguity is what the anime was going for.

There area set of people who are immortal and some semi-immortal. most of the main characters fall into these to categories. You'd think the anime would get boring knowing that no one is going to die (or at least stay dead), but no. The story keeps you interested by making you want to know what exactly happened. And besides, a lot of guys like Vino, Jacuzzi, Nice, Eve, Ladd and Chane aren't immortal. This anime also has no clear protagonist. So it is interesting to say the least. So yeah, this plot and story telling style was a huge success when we consider what the anime was going for.

Being an anime about immortality with crime having a huge role in the plot, you'd think this would be filled to the brim with gruesome and bloody scenes. Though this anime has some gruesome scenes thrown in here and there, it isn't nearly that much or that bad when you compare it to something like Mirai Nikki. The end leaves you satisfied and at the same time wanting more.

I really liked the message at the end. "Stories should not have a beginning or ending". I have my own take on that. But I'll make a separate blog post regarding that one line alone.

The opening is nice to watch. However, It doesn't have any songs to go along with it. For the most part, the opening does fit the anime.

Up until now, I've just been stating thing as it is. What's my take on the whole anime? Personally, I liked it. It does get a little tiring at times but nothing to take you out of the experience entirely. Most of the characters are likable or detestable depending on what part they play in the whole story. Though normally, I'd complain about some characters not having proper development and backstories but judging by the nature of this anime, I'll make an exception for this one. Dallas, in particular, was really annoying and useless at the same time. I'm willing to believe that he's nothing more than a plot device. I'd also say the same about Chane, though she isn't nearly as annoying. This may be a nit-pick on my part but, what exactly did Chane's presence in the story accomplish?

Overall, I wouldn't say this is a bad anime. It's quite good. I would recommend this to you if you have some free time on your hands. Not exactly a 'MUST WATCH' type of thing rather, something you'd most probably enjoy. unless of course, you don't like this genre in general.

I rate this: 83/100
Thanks for reading!

DISCLAIMER: THIS POST IS BASED ON THE EDUCATION SYSTEM OF BANGLADESH. THE EDUCATION IN YOUR COUNTRY MAY BE DIFFERENT.

So, I've been inactive for the last couple of days (mostly). It's I had a big test at school. While studying for one of the relatively easier tests, my mind began to wonder. How much significance does a test hold in the grand scheme of things?

Exams are an important part of our life. They determine how we spend the rest of our life (school), if we get employed or not (offices) and what colleges we get admitted to (entrance exam). But what exactly happens during exam season? Mostly nothing of interest.

Time seems to move by so fast when when we are behind schedule on the night before the test. We feel a rush of dread and get worked up. But the truth is, LESS things actually happen to us during this time in our life. When you look at it from a 3rd person's perspective, you'll see that in reality, all we really do is stay cooped up in a room all day reading one or multiple books that aren't even that interesting. We don't even learn anything in exam season. We just revise what we know and already know and what we've learned through out the year. We cram what we can only to forget half the stuff at the exam hall. We try to devise ingenious tricks and tactics to side-step what we can't answer or are bad at to try and get a passing grade. The reality is; you basically sit stationary in one room reading the whole day; go to the exam hall the next day; take a test; come home; and repeat the process until the exams are over. It's one of the most, if not the most boring, tedious and uninteresting segments human life has to offer.

And the funny thing is, it's paradoxical too. Usually boring days seems to drag on for centuries whereas the exam days seem to pass in the blink of an eye. But the exam period itself feels like it's been like this forever. And some people actually want the exam time to be even longer to prepare better. So there you have it! One of the most important segments in a students life is also one of the most boring.

So why do people get this worked up over something so boring? The answer is the sheer amount of stuff that's riding on these tests. Why? I just proved that tests, as a whole are pretty useless. The aim of an educational institute is to teach students all kinds of stuff they'll need in their life, right? So what's with the sheer importance behind something that's about as useful as siting in a room and rubbing 2 stones together all day? Well what's the purpose of having these test? It's to test the student to see if he's actually learned anything. The degrees are given to say, "Congratulations! You did great!" The big companies, offices and industries want to see the degrees to know if they are employing the right dude or not. As a result, we put more emphasis on passing and getting good grades than actually learning something. And can you blame us? If we don't get a good grade, a lot of doors in life just close. Some guys even killed themselves 'cause they failed the test and didn't want to face the life that was ahead of 'em. Surely, this is not what it was supposed to be like.

Now stating a problem is a million times easier than solving it. So what could be the solution to this mess? Ban tests altogether? Like it or not, that would be a very stupid thing to do. Without tests, there will be more unqualified people joining the office and every sector starting from agriculture to IT would get a boot to the face. Besides, our society has gotten so intertwined with the concept of tests that taking it away at this point, all at once will 'cause some really horrible side-effects.

So then what? The degrees, interviews and entrance exams should stay. But the way a person gets these degrees should be changed. Grades and degrees based on grades should still stay. But the tests that the educational institute should hold the aforementioned entrance exams. The grades should be given on class work, home work and like it or not, surprise tests (though the points in this case should be given leniently). The teacher could ask a question or tell the student to explain something in class. The grades will be given based on this. I don't know about you, but I think this I'll be a step up from the tests we currently take.

Anyway, I'm no educationist. I'm just a student who thinks tests suck. If there are any guys who actually know a thing or two about the education system reading this, tell me what you thought. All this was just my opinion.
I finally did it. I don't remember why, but I did it. I watched and finished "School Days". And now I'm going to add to the massive store of reviews on this anime.

I've heard that this anime is harem ecchi. I've also heard it's horror, psychological, slice of life and hentai. So clearly I need to find out what this anime really is. After watching 12 episodes, I... OH COME ON! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A HAREM! I'm going to review this as a harem anime.

Let's start from the very top. And by top, I mean the opening. I think the song played is Innocent Blue, but I could be wrong. Either way, the song is very nice and I really liked it. Don't misunderstand. I liked the song, NOT the opening. The opening does nothing to prepare you for the hell you're in for. Though the sequence is fitting, the song isn't. To put it simply, the song fits the sequence not the show and the sequence fits the show. The first few episodes felt like a easy, smooth and relaxing sort of harem anime.

One of the reasons why people hate this anime is because the protagonist, Itou Makoto, is a complete and utter piece of crap. Though some people disliked him from the very minute they saw him because of his design, I was not one of those people. I actually liked him a little cause he reminded me of Amano Yukiteru, the protagonist of my currently favorite anime, Mirai Nikki.

;

Am I the only one who thinks they sorta resemble each other? Anyway, at first I liked, or rather, NOT HATED everyone. And when the anime broke out the first love triangle, I was still not pissed. However, when Makoto started liking Sekai, that's when everything started to get annoying. I would've praised this anime had they portrayed the sudden change in Makoto's feelings differently. But they way it was portrayed, it made Makoto detestable in my eyes.

Let me explain, the way they portrayed this, it seemed to me that Makoto was actually moved by Katsura's beauty (her huge cup size) and when he couldn't do "perverted things" to her, he shifted his sinful eyes to Sekai, who let her do perverted things to her. To top it off, Makoto's perverted mind was explained using "He doesn't understand girls' feelings". Now, I don't have a girlfriend and I don't plan on having one anytime soon. But I think that even I would know how to behave. I mean, HE LITERALLY CONFESSED TO KATSURA AFTER ONLY KNOWING HER FOR 2 DAYS. I'd think that common sense, shyness and natural caution would be enough to drive him in the right direction. Also, he said that he wanted to practice kissing with Sekai. He almost had sex with her after kissing. Ignoring the obvious flaws in this tactic, I don't think couples anywhere in the world have sex right after their first kiss. In the next episode he switches his attention to Sekai. It was at this point that the show became aggravating to watch.

The thing that finally turns this show into complete crap is when Makoto has relation ships with every girl that is important except Katsura's sister and a tall, short haired girl. It is here that the love triangle turns into a love polygon. This becomes so confusing that I drew a graph to see what the polygon looks like. Here it is:

To me, it looks like a quadrilateral with smaller quadrilaterals (and a triangle) in it. If there's some geometry expert reading this, can he/she please tell me if this shape has a specific name or not?

Frankly, I slowly lost respect for each and every character of this anime until I only liked Sawanaga and Setsuna. Then Sawanaga raped(?) Katsura and lost my respect as well. Finally, there was just Setsuna. As if to piss me off even further, this anime got even Setsuna involved with Makoto for bullshit reasons and she lost my respect as well.

The final episode, in my opinion, is actually the best episode in the entire show. Yes it's dark! Yes it's twisted! But I still say this episode is the best because Makoto got what was coming to him. He deserved every last thing that happened to him.

How dark is the final episode? It feels like a typical episode of Jigoku Shoujo. I honestly think that if Sekai contacted Hell Correspondence and got Ai to drag Makoto to hell and later Katsura used Hell Correspondence to send Sekai to hell wouldn't be unfitting to the episode. But of course, this isn't a cross-over. So instead of watching Ai and her gang drag Makoto and Sekai to hell, we see Sekai kill Makoto and Katsura kill Sekai.

So are their actions justified? At first glance I thought so. But upon thinking about it a little, I realized that even the reason for all this suffering is bullshit as well. This isn't some deep betrayal or bigger meaning behind it. It's just cause two dumbass girls decided to chase a total douche bag and didn't know how to move on with life. I mean seriously, if your girlfriend/boyfriend cheats on you repeatedly, don't you think it's high time you dump him? Sekai had NO REASON to kill Makoto. Yes, he was cruel. Yes, he cheated. Sekai could've just ended her suffering by dumping Makoto. When Makoto broke up with Katsura, she should've moved on. There was nothing that couldn't have been solved without resorting to murder. Sekai and Katsura should've done what Otome and Hikari did. They should've dumped Makoto. Even in the last episode, it was not too late for Sekai to break up with Makoto. There was no reason (besides the fact that Makoto's death was satisfying to watch) for Sekai to kill Makoto.

Speaking of Makoto, let's talk about him as a character. I get that this anime was adapted from a visual novel/dating sim of the same name, and I can see how Makoto can work for a video game, but I don't think his character works very well for an anime. Let's recap what we know about Makoto's character. He's a student, he likes music, he's perverted. His motivation is... To have sex with lots of girls? He... ... ... is... immoral and... cheats and... ...That's pretty much all we know about him. Characters like this maybe good for games as the player can put himself/herself in the protagonists shoes. But I personally don't think this type of characters are good for anime.

So what did I get out of watching this anime? It pissed me off. The first few episodes were good. The opening is awesome. The ending is different for different episodes. And the final episode was very very satisfying. Watch it or don't. It's your choice. You won't miss much if you decide not to watch this. You can argue that the story shows us the bad sides of teenage recklessness, cheating and the importance of morderate parental guidance, but it's not enough to save this anime. The only redeeming quality of this anime is the opening song and the final episode.

I rate this: 40/100
This was probably my most tiring review. It isn't necessarily the longest. But It left me drained. I'll skip the small talk and just get to the point.

The first thing I can say about this route is that it was definitely given more thought than the other routes.

The awkward pacing does create some problems regarding likeability of the characters, but story-wise, it fits better than Rikana's or Ayano's story. So how's the story? I don't know if it's because I played the other two routes first, but it was super predictable. In the end it is revealed that Nagisa was a stalker. She tried to kill my girlfriend, Sanae but accidentally stabbed me instead. I'm not an expert when it comes to science, biology or medicine. But I don't think getting stabbed and almost dying causes complete memory loss. I could be wrong though, so feel free to correct me there.

As for the ending, the fact that my girlfriend was Sanae and Nagisa was my stalker and NOT the other way around was probably supposed to come as a huge shock. But honestly, I could see this ending coming from miles away. I KNEW this would happen. It's never good when your audience or readers can see thorough your story like they can see through the glass in their windows.

The ending deciding decision was to tell Nagisa that she should die or tell her not to die. First of all, who in there right mind would tell someone crying that they should die. And secondly, the only information I was given about Sanae was thqat she's my girlfriend. And because of amnesia, I have no reason why I should like her. It's like saying "She's a likeable character. You have to like her to enjoy this story." Last I checked, that's not how it's supposed to work! You have to give make me like someone I'm supposed to like by their character, personality, actions and motivation. Not by saying "Like him/her".

If I say "don't die", I get killed by Nagisa and I presume she kills herself anyway. If I say die, she kills herself.

I get 2 endings and again, the labels should've probably switched.

This story however, is not as easily salvageable as the other routes. I have no idea how this could've been made into something worth playing.

After playing through the whole game, it seemed to me that the game was originally meant to have only one story, that being Nagisa's route. This route obviously had the most thought and most work put into it when compared with the other routes. I think Charon found that the game was too short when she finished making it with only Nagisa's route and then added the other 2 routes as filler or as an afterthought. She used alternate ideas she had to make Rikana's route and Ayano's route. While she finished Rikana's route, she got board/tired/writer's block while she was half way through Ayano's route and half-assed it.

So what's my overall thoughts on the game? All 3 routes are varying degrees of bad with varying degrees of the same mistakes. Ayano's story could've been made into something great had a lot more thought, effort and play-testing went into it. Rikana's story was salvageable, yes, but it probably wouldn't have made a great story even then. Nagisa's story is very hard to salvage and even then the result wouldn't be that good. With slight adjustment, more time, effort, thought and play-testing, this entire game could've been really good.

I Rate this: 49/100
